Comparison of "The Reading Lesson" with Englemann's "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" My daughter loved this book (The Reading Lesson: Teach Your Child to Read in 20 Easy Lessons). The breakdown by word sounds is a wonderful way for especially small children to learn. We had to go slow and repeat the lessons most days, but I was amazed how, after only a couple of months of daily lessons, my son was able to pick up any book and sound out any words he didn't know. We did not even need to finish all 20 lessons. That is what I loved about this method--it gives the child a wonderful foundation and the tools so they will easily be able to understand and learn new and more difficult words/phrases over time. My son is now 8 years old and an excellent speller an. -year-old. I used this to teach my then Worked perfectly for my 3-year-old I used this to teach my then 3-year-old son how to read.
